Kobo Gourmet
About This Spot
Stepping into Kobo Gourmet feels like uncovering a quietly cherished secret nestled just off the main streets of Pickering. The space carries a calm, unassuming warmth — far from the buzz of the city but alive with the subtle rhythms of an authentic Japanese dining experience. Here, the pace invites you to slow down, lean into thoughtful conversation, and savor every element of your meal without distraction.
This is a spot where tradition and genuine care quietly shape the evening. The light hum of gentle chatter and the attentive presence of the chef, who brings his own heritage and craft to each plate, create a comforting ambiance that’s both intimate and sincere. It’s a place where the food unfolds naturally across the table and where the moment stretches just enough to appreciate the freshness and balance in every bite.
More than flashy presentation or hurried service, Kobo Gourmet invites you to experience Japanese cuisine as a lived, human story — from the careful selection of the freshest fish to the delicate layering of flavor in dishes like their omakase or intricately crafted rolls. Whether it’s a peaceful solo meal, a thoughtful dinner with friends, or a first encounter with sushi that respects its origins, the mood here supports quiet discovery and a genuine connection to the craft behind each dish.
Though the setting is modest and the focus remains steady on what’s served rather than on decor, the authenticity and skill in the kitchen shine clearly. It’s a dining experience grounded in heartfelt precision—one that resonates with anyone seeking a deeper taste of Japanese culinary tradition beyond the usual.

This is one of the best Japanese Sushi restaurants that I like to visit. Always give you fresh fish and nice dessert . A real Japanese Cuisine that is owned and run by Japanese. Please check their opening hours. Now they only open for dinner in the evening .

Peaceful sitting for lunch. Chef was kind and responsive. The chicken teriyaki lunch special was a nice balance and delicious. The miso soup was flavorful and soothing. I'd recommend this place for fine Japanese food.

Pleasantly surprised with finding this place so close to home. Such a blessing to find and experience the natural authenticity of the dishes. Looking forward to making this a go to staple

Hidden gem and a must visit! The chef is from Japan. They serve authentic Japanese cuisine here. The food is very delicious and properly done. Don't judge the interior as it is a tab bit outdated, BUT it's the food that's a home run/slam dunk. It's worth the visit for a taste of real Japanese flavours! AYCE places won't give you the authentic flavours that this place delivers day in and day out.

I was pleasantly surprised. It’s been a while since I’ve been here, but I got the assorted large sushi plate and it was good.
